I Like It Here

Ben Cooper
medium: digital cinema, film photography, electric guitar

An off-beat, no-budget love letter to the ghosts of New York past (and the director's implicit bird-flip to a new wave of white-flighters ditching the city), "I Like It Here," now in production, will be my final film at NYU.

In the summer of 2020, James, an adrift and out of work musician, bumps into none other than a lanky, genderless space alien, who's travelled millions of miles to our world to find themselves pretty much the only tourist in a pandemic-ravaged city. A shaggy buddy comedy by way of eclectic audiovisual collage, "I Like It Here" takes inspiration from No Wave downtown cinema, the punk scene, stoner comedies, 1950s B sci-fi films, and (of course) Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.

Screenshots from the production as well as snatches of my lookbook are included.

Ben Cooper is a senior at NYU Tisch Film & TV with a double major in History.
